Looking for a reason NOT to draft a top fantasy prospect this year? Hoping to be talked out of a guy in the first couple rounds? As difficult as it may be, we try to make a case against the top ten running backs on our Big Board.
Running Backs
1. Jacquizz Rodgers (Oregon State)
Two bye weeks and dates with defensive stalwarts TCU and Boise State is not appetizing. At a diminutive 5'7 188-pounds, can Quizz continue to carry the load for the third year in a row without breaking down? Also, he faces the country's third toughest SOS (rushing defense).
2. Donald Buckram (UTEP)
The Miners are a passing team at heart. Then last year happened with Buckram exploding onto the scene out of nowhere. It's possible UTEP goes back to its roots and leans more on the passing game in 2010, eating into Buckram's touches a bit.
3. Dion Lewis (Pittsburgh)
Ray Graham is lurking in the shadows, waiting for his turn. Graham was far more hyped coming out of high school than Lewis, but he didn't arrive until the summertime (while Dion showed his stuff in the spring). Also of concern is Pitt's rebuilt offensive line and iffy quarterback situation.
4. Jordan Todman (Connecticut)
Coach Randy Edsall likes to utilize two running backs when he can. If a strong No. 2 emerges in fall camp that Edsall feels he can rely on, Todman's value will take a hit. Todman will be facing the nation's 16th toughest Rush SOS.
5. Vai Taua (Nevada)
Taua has had off the field issues in the past (he was suspended for the bowl game). If he slips up again, he could be riding the pine.
6. Bernard Pierce (Temple)
Pierce has had a hard time staying healthy. He missed time at the end of last season, and has also been out in fall camp after a hard hit to the helmet.
7. Lance Dunbar (North Texas)
The Mean Green will be breaking in a new signal caller this fall, which could be good or bad for Dunbar. UNT figures to be playing from behind more often than not. Will they abandon the running game?
8. John Clay (Wisconsin)
Clay had two surgeries this off-season on his ankles. Will he truly be 100 percent when the season starts?
9. Shane Vereen (Cal)
Vereen was nicked up this off-season -- something that has happening quite a bit to Cal running backs (for whatever reason) over the years.
10. Daniel Thomas (Kansas State)
Thomas faces the 19th toughest Rush SOS in the land, and is someone that could have as many as four sits on his schedule (BYE, Nebraska, Texas, UCLA).
