Damaged Goods: Players Returning from Injury

Quarterbacks

Austin Davis (Southern Miss)
He is recovering from a torn ligament in his foot suffered last season. Davis is being pushed hard for the starting job by Martevious Young and needs to be healthy to win the job.

Robert Griffin (Baylor)
Griffin is coming back from tearing up his knee in 2009. The reports have been promising, but he likely won’t have any contact until the opening game this fall.

Steven Sheffield (Texas Tech)
“Sticks” is recovering from foot surgery and is expected to be fully healthy come August to battle Taylor Potts for the starting job.

Taylor Potts (Texas Tech)
Potts is healing after having surgery on his hand this spring. He should be ready to go by August camp.

Chandler Harnish (Northern Illinois)
He avoided knee surgery and was able to participate in spring ball. If the knee holds up, he should be ready for the season opener.

Geno Smith (West Virginia)
Smith looks to be the next Mountaineers QB, but he is battling a foot injury that kept him out of the spring game. Owners should continue to monitor his status throughout the summer to see if he is fully recovered by the start of the season.

Dayne Crist (Notre Dame)
Crist has spent the off-season recovering from the torn ACL he suffered last year against Washington State. He has made a quick recovery and appears on track to be ready for August camp.

Jamie Hampton (Troy)
Hampton was the starter in 2008 before suffering a knee injury that required him to redshirt in 2009. He looks to be completely recovered and ready to lead the Trojans offense this fall.

Ryan Mallett (Arkansas)
The big Texan is dealing with a foot injury that forced him to have a screw replaced on June 9th. He is expected to be ready to go for the season opener, but his status should be monitored closely.

Other quarterbacks returning from injury that are expected to be 100% in August:

Sean Renfree (Duke)
Christian Ponder (Florida State)
BJ Daniels (South Florida)
Trevor Vittatoe (UTEP)
Ricky Dobbs (Navy)
Tim Jefferson (Air Force)
