Todd's Analysis

My Draft Strategy
:
In the 5-hole, my goal was to come out of the first two rounds with a RB-WR combo.  With a 10-team league starting only one QB, I wanted to wait as long as possible to grab my quarterbacks.  I also wanted to come out of this with a Top 5 TE since, in this 1QB-2RB-2WR-1TE starting format, the TE amounts to 17% of your starting skill position lineup.

My Favorite Pick:
After waiting until the 6th round to strike at QB, I was happy to wind up with both Florida State QB Christian Ponder and Texas Tech QB Steven Sheffield (8th round).  I feel Sticks is worth the risk in this area of BCS-only league drafts.

Second Thoughts:
Waiting until the 4th round to wait on RB2 proved to be the wrong decision as I found myself in “RB No Man’s Land”.  I went with Derrick Washington, but didn’t feel great about it.  It turned out that ZERO running backs went in the 16 picks surrounding my selection.  No Man’s Land, indeed.  In hindsight, top TE Lance Kendricks would’ve been the better value pick here.

“The One That Got Away”:
For the second draft in a row, Mohamed Sanu fell a little further than I had anticipated.  I was salivating at the notion of pairing him up with WR1 Michael Floyd, but Chapel Hill Glory stole Sanu a few picks in front of me in round three.  Another one that got away:  Robert Griffin in the 4th round taken by “Ron Mexico and the Honkey Donks” two picks ahead of me.

Best Value Picks:

  1. 4th Rounds – QB Robert Griffin (Baylor) by Ron Mexico & The Honkey Donks
  2. 8th Round – QB Dayne Crist (Notre Dame) by The Greats
  3. 8th Round – RB Derrick Locke (Kentucky) by Chew
  4. 6th Round – QB Russell Wilson (NC State) by MissouriGator
  5. 8th Round – QB Josh Nesbitt (Georgia Tech) by Chapel Hill Glory
  6. 10th Round – WR Alshon Jeffrey (South Carolina) by Kevin-CFG
  7. 11th Round – WR Vidal Hazelton (Cincinnati) by Joe-CFG

Bottom line – throw in my Ponder (6th) and Sheffield (8th) selections and you can see there is plenty of QB value in the middle rounds.

A Couple Headscratchers:

2nd Round – RB Baron Batch (Texas Tech) by Ron Mexico & The Honkey Donks

Ryan Williams was still on the board.  Enough said.

7thRound – DEF Ohio State (Chapel Hill Glory)
Entirely too early to take a defense in this (or almost any) format.

* Note:  "The Greats" was a draft no-show and picked via auto-pilot.  Therefore, he had multiple head scratcher selections.

Joe's Analysis

My Draft Strategy:
I decided to spend the first five rounds filling out my starting QB, RBs, and WRs. Once those spots were filled I wanted to draft for value. While going through the draft I decided to secure solid starters in the rest of the line-up, then take chances on boom or bust type of sleepers late.

My Favorite Pick:
Since I waited to draft my starting WRs last, I needed to find good value in the middle rounds. I was pleasantly surprised to see AJ Green slide down to the end of the 5th round.

Second Thoughts:
I seem to find myself sitting in every draft with Jake Locker at the top of my available players list. I really wanted to wait on drafting a QB but there was too much top level talent off the board at WR for me to pass on stashing away Locker in the 3rd round.

“The One That Got Away”:
I can’t really say there was a guy that got away simply because I went into this draft without targeting any specific players. The one guy I was eying up as a great value selection would have been Russell Wilson at the beginning of the 6th round. Instead he was snagged up at the end of the 5th round and I ended up going with John Brantley.

Best Value Picks:

  1. 8th Round – Steven Sheffield (Texas Tech) by Todd-CFG
  2. 4th Round – Landry Jones (Oklahoma) by Soccerous
  3. 10th Round – Alshon Jeffert (South Carolina) by Kevin-CFG
  4. 4th Round – Keith Smith (Purdue) by Missouri Gator

A Couple Headscratchers:

2nd Round – RB Baron Batch (Texas Tech) by Ron Mexico & The Honkey Donks
I just don’t envision Batch dominating the production like other do. He’s recovering from a sports hernia and back-up Harrison Jeffers is bound to eat into Batch’s production

4th Round – WR Jonathan Baldwin (Pittsburgh) by Socceroos
While Baldwin does hold good fantasy value in BCS-only leagues, there were other guys like Jerrell and Ronald Johnson that were still sitting out there. I think Socceroos might have had a chance at getting Baldwin with his next pick.

Kevin’s Analysis

My Draft Strategy:

I actually draft with the #1 slot in my BCS only league and have Quizzy and Randall Cobb as my keepers, so I wanted to play this draft out as if it were my personal BCS league draft. Once I saw Cobb available at the end of round 2, I knew this could work as an approximation of what I can expect to see at my draft later in August. With the deep QB position, I figured it would be best to have 2 stud running backs and a top 5-7 wide out after the first three rounds.

My Favorite Pick:
Even though it maybe considered early by some, I was thrilled to see Brandon Weeden staring me in the face at the end of the 4th round. The system is just too enticing to pass up and since my league is a keeper league, it was prudent to get him this year and have him for 2 seasons. I also loved getting Victor Anderson in the 11th round as I think he will bounce back nicely this fall.

Having Second Thoughts:
I seriously thought about snagging Blaine Gabbert with the first pick in the third round as he would have fit nicely with Quizzy and Montel Harris, but alas I decided to stick to the plan of trying to land Weeden or Ponder in the 4th.

“The One That Got Away”:
I really wanted to get Drake Dunsmore at my pick in the 7th round, but he was snatched a few picks before me by Todd. After that I felt the urge to grab my TE, so I selected George Bryan at the turn.

Best Value Picks

1. 6th Round- QB Christian Ponder (Florida State) by Todd-CFG

2. 6th Round- QB Russell Wilson (NC State) by Missouri Gator

3. 9th Round- QB BJ Daniels (South Florida) by Kevin-CFG

4. 9th Round- WR Russell Shepard (LSU) by Ron Mexico

5. 11th Round- RB Armando Allen (Notre Dame) by Chapel Hill Glory

A Couple Headscratchers:

3rd Round – RB Alexander Robinson (Iowa State) by Chew
I absolutely love Robinson’s ability but hate how difficult his schedule is this year. He should be good, but I’m not sure if he is worth a 3rd round pick.

2nd Round- RB Baron Batch (Texas Tech) by Ron Mexico
I’m on board the Batch bandwagon as stated previously, but with guys like Ryan Williams, Montel Harris, and Anthony Allen still on the board, I may have gone a different direction.

9th Round- RB Jermaine Thomas (Florida State) by Joe-CFG
I know it’s the 9th round and all, but Thomas may not even be the starter for the Noles and will certainly have a bunch of carries stolen if he is. I think guys like Victor Anderson, Armando Allen, or Mikel Leshoure all have higher ceilings and were still on the board at that point.
