Injuries

Quarterbacks

Lyle Moevao (QB, Oregon State)

What’s the scoop? His recovery is going slower than expected and it looks like he might not be ready for the start of the season.

Running Backs

image

DeMarco Murray (RB, Oklahoma)

What’s the scoop? Murray suffered another hamstring injury and could miss up to two weeks of valuable camp time.

image

Nic Grigsby (RB, Arizona)

What’s the scoop? Grigsby sprained his ankle in practice and was carted off the field.  No word yet on the severity of the injury.

image

Duane Bennett (RB, Minnesota)

What’s the scoop? Bennett had knee surgery last fall.  We’ll see this August if he is truly fully recovered, and ready to roll.

image

Derrick Washington (RB, Missouri)

What’s the scoop? Washington had arthroscopic knee surgery in February, and was limited in spring drills.  He should be good to go this fall.

image

Alex Allen (RB, Akron)

What’s the scoop? Allen missed the final nine games of 2008 with a hip injury.  Is he 100%?  We’ll find out in fall camp.

image

Da’Rel Scott (RB, Maryland)

What’s the scoop? Scott suffered a knee strain in spring ball and is expected to be fully recovered when fall camp begins.  We shall see.

image

Luke Lippincott (RB, Nevada)

What’s the scoop? Lippincott missed the 2008 season after blowing out his knee.  The NCAA granted him a 6th year of eligibility.  The 2007 WAC POY will fight Vai Taua for playing time.

image

Jewel Hampton (RB, Iowa)

What’s the scoop? Hampton says he’s 99% recovered from a scary - but minor - knee injury a few weeks ago.  He’s practicing and looking healthy.

image

Kordell Young (RB, Rutgers)

What’s the scoop? Young continues to have issues with his surgically repaired knee and will be limited in camp.

Wide Receivers

image

DeAndre Brown (WR, Southern Miss)

What’s the scoop? Brown broke his leg in USM’s bowl game.  His recovery was going well until a reported setback in mid-July.  Brown is practicing in light receiver drills, but is still wearing a protective boot away from the field.  His status for the opener against Alcorn State is best classified as “questionable” at this point.

image

Jeremy Williams (WR, Tulane)

What’s the scoop? Williams had season-ending knee surgery last fall.  We’ll be watching him closely this August to see if he looks close to 100%.

image

Patrick Edwards (WR, Houston)

What’s the scoop? Edwards suffered a nasty broken leg last fall.  Reports have been positive regarding his recovery, and he is expected to compete for a starting WR job.

image

Jacoby Ford (WR, Clemson)

What’s the scoop? Ford re-aggravated his hamstring in practice and has been limited.

image

Andre Debose (WR, Florida)

What’s the scoop? The incoming freshman has been limited in summer workouts with a bad hammy.

Kickers

image

Maikon Bonani (PK, USF)

What’s the scoop? Bonani is lucky to be alive after falling 35 feet from a roller coaster this summer.  He fractured his vertebrae but is expected to make a full recovery. He will not play football this season.
