Injuries

Quarterbacks

Zac Robinson (QB, Oklahoma State)

What’s the scoop? Robinson should be fine, but the days of missed time are beginning to add up.  He is a valuable fantasy commodity due to his running ability.  If his legs aren’t 100%, his value could tumble a bit.

image

Aaron Corp (QB, USC)

What’s the scoop? Corp has a small fracture in his fibula and could miss up to three weeks of practice.  Matt Barkley is taking first team reps, and looking good in the process.

image

Lyle Moevao (QB, Oregon State)

What’s the scoop? His recovery is going slower than expected and it looks like he might not be ready for the start of the season.

image

Jaybo Shaw (QB, Georgia Tech)

What’s the scoop? Shaw broke his collarbone and is out 6-8 weeks.  He might take a redshirt.  He figured to be Josh Nesbitt’s backup this fall.

Running Backs

image

Darren Evans (RB, Virginia Tech)

What’s the scoop? Evans tore his ACL and will be out for the season.

image

Baron Batch (RB, Texas Tech)

What’s the scoop? Batch left practice this week with an undisclosed elbow/arm injury.  He could reportedly be out 3-6 weeks.  For what it’s worth, Batch was back at practice the next day in an arm brace, riding a stationary bike.

image

Caleb King (RB, Georgia)

What’s the scoop? Caleb King sustained a hamstring injury during a scrimmage that could sideline him for 7-10 days.

image

Aaron Crawford (RB, Texas Tech)

What’s the scoop? Crawford has missed practice reps with a shoulder injury.  With Batch out with his own injury, Crawford was expected to step in and compete for carries with Harrison Jeffers.

image

DeMarco Murray (RB, Oklahoma)

What’s the scoop? Murray has been hampered by a bum hamstring and might miss up to two weeks of valuable camp time.

image

Nic Grigsby (RB, Arizona)

What’s the scoop? Grisgby missed a day of practice time with an ankle injury, but is back at practice and looking fine.

image

Duane Bennett (RB, Minnesota)

What’s the scoop? Bennett is reportedly back to 100% and is in the running back competition mix for the Gophers.

image

Alex Allen (RB, Akron)

What’s the scoop? Allen is back on the practice field and appears to be recovered from his hip injury.

image

Luke Lippincott (RB, Nevada)

What’s the scoop? Lippincott missed the 2008 season after blowing out his knee.  The NCAA granted him a 6th year of eligibility.  The 2007 WAC POY will fight Vai Taua for playing time.

image

Jewel Hampton (RB, Iowa)

What’s the scoop? Hampton says he’s 99% recovered from a scary - but minor - knee injury a few weeks ago.  He’s practicing and looking healthy.

image

Kordell Young (RB, Rutgers)

What’s the scoop? Young continues to have issues with his surgically repaired knee and will be limited in camp.  He hopes to be ready for the season opener, but one has to wonder if he will be in “football shape” by game one.

Wide Receivers

image

DeAndre Brown (WR, Southern Miss)

What’s the scoop? Brown broke his leg in USM’s bowl game.  His recovery was going well until a reported setback in mid-July.  Brown is practicing in light receiver drills, but is still wearing a protective boot away from the field.  His status for the opener against Alcorn State is best classified as “questionable” at this point.

image

Jeremy Williams (WR, Tulane)

What’s the scoop? Williams had season-ending knee surgery last fall.  He is back to practice and looking fine.

image

Patrick Edwards (WR, Houston)

What’s the scoop? Edwards suffered a nasty broken leg last fall.  Reports have been positive regarding his recovery, and he is expected to compete for a starting WR job.

image

Jacoby Ford (WR, Clemson)

What’s the scoop? Ford re-aggravated his hamstring in practice and has been limited.

image

Andre Debose (WR, Florida)

What’s the scoop? The incoming freshman has been limited in summer workouts with a bad hammy.

image

Kyle Halderman (WR, Air Force)

What’s the scoop? Slot back Kyle Halderman will miss at least two months of the season after breaking his collarbone in practice.

Tight Ends

image

Rob Gronkowski (TE, Arizona)

What’s the scoop? Gronk has missed practice this week with an undisclosed leg injury.  He left camp today to get some further tests done back in Tucson.  ***UPDATE - AZstarnet.com is reporting that starting tight end Rob Gronkowski has a back strain and is out indefinitely.  Coach Mike Stoops said Friday that he could miss a week or maybe longer.

image

D.J. Williams (TE, Arkansas)

What’s the scoop? Tight end D.J. Williams has been out of action the last two practices while nursing an ankle injury. The injury doesn’t appear to be serious.

image

D.J. Grant (TE, Texas)

What’s the scoop? Grant is out for the season, joining fellow TE Blaine Irby.

Kickers

image

Maikon Bonani (PK, USF)

What’s the scoop? Bonani is lucky to be alive after falling 35 feet from a roller coaster this summer.  He fractured his vertebrae but is expected to make a full recovery. He will not play football this season.
