Our Picks - 2009 Athlon Magazine Mock Draft

It’s Mock Around the Clock around here these days!
CollegeFootballGeek.com had a seat at the table for their 2009 mock draft
If you’ve picked up your edition of Athlon’s College Football Preview magazine, you may have noticed.
Other participants included representatives from SI.com, FCBlitz, U-Sports, KC Star, Star-Ledger, and, of course, the guys from Athlon.
The first seven rounds were published in the mag. Check out a summary of our selections after the jump.
We drew the top overall pick in this 12-team snake draft. Here is a quick rundown of our first seven selections:1.01 - Case Keenum (QB, Houston)
No surprise here. The UH gunslinger should be everyone’s top rated fantasy player for 2009.2.12 - DeAndre Brown (WR, Southern Miss)
Brown just may be the most physically gifted WR in the country. He had a great freshman year before breaking his leg in USM’s bowl game. We’re confident he’ll be healthy and ready to roll in 2009.3.01 - Bryce Beall (RB, Houston)
Beall is a great dual threat coming out of the backfield. He’ll rack up the points in PPR leagues. And this is a PPR league.4.12 - Ryan Broyles (WR, Oklahoma)
Broyles steps into the No. 1 WR role for the Sooners. We were surprised he was still on the board here at No. 48 overall.5.01 - Rob Gronkowski (TE, Arizona)
We found ourselves right in the sweet spot on the run of tight ends. Thrilled to grab The Gronk in this spot.6.12 - Toby Gerhart (RB, Stanford)
We have to be honest, we were eyeing up Tulsa RB Charles Clay here. We nearly took him with our last selection, but thought he might last to us in this spot. And we would’ve gotten away with it, too, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids over a U-Sports! Clay was stolen from us one pick earlier by U-Sports founder Nathan Karp. After taking a minute to regroup, we were happy to grab Gerhart. He figures to be the workhorse for Stanford this season, especially with that pesky Anthony Kimble moving on.7.01 - Damaris Johnson (WR, Tulsa)
We were surprised DJ was still on the board. He represents tremendous value in the 7th round. Our trio of WRs at this point in the draft is second to none.
All in all, we were very happy with the results through seven rounds. We felt that we stuck to our principles of drafting for value, and many of our targets fell into our lap.
